Bang Curry aims to make ‘cooking from scratch’ both healthy and exciting for lovers of world cuisine
Curry dishes have become increasingly popular on dinner menus, with 39% of Millennials likely to order dishes containing curry, followed by 22% of Gen Z consumers [1]. UK-based food manufacturer, Bang Curry believes that while time-poor consumers are interested in cooking these types of dishes at home, many lack the necessary ingredients and knowledge to do so. The company asserts that there is a significant unmet need for convenience meal kits that encourage ‘cooking from scratch’ within the grocery category [2] for consumers anticipating fresh ingredients and gourmet recipes that result in quality food.
Industry overview and challenges
The growth of the meal kit market is influenced by factors such as health awareness and a growing working population [3]. Reportedly, consumers are increasingly aware of the importance of eating healthy and are willing to pay more for healthy and specialty foods [3]. As the working population expands, so does the demand for pre-cooked meals that are quick to prepare.
As a result, the global meal kits market is projected to grow at a CAGR of 15% by 2026 [4]. This growth aligns with a rising interest in world cuisine, cooking practices and traditions tied to specific regions, countries, or cultures. In the UK alone, the world cuisines market was valued at close to £3bn in 2024 [5]. Research further reveals that 74% of world cuisine enthusiasts believe these flavours make home dining more exciting, while 42% of respondents express a desire for more products that guide them through authentic cooking techniques [6].
This overall growth in meal kit demand is attributed to increasing demand for authenticity and cultural representation [7], along with culinary innovations from consumers. Other factors influencing the trajectory of the market may be attributed to the shift in consumer preferences for convenience, driving purchase decisions in e-commerce and for meal kits [8]. Additionally, emerging trends in the meal kits industry include a shift towards personalised kits designed for consumers looking for sophisticated meals at home [9]. Many consumers seek in-home meals that mimic restaurant-style experiences, and manufacturers must innovate by incorporating exciting flavours and trendy recipes into their offerings [9].
Consumers use world cuisine to incorporate variety into their diet, with seven in 10 UK consumers having tried a new dish in the past twelve months [10]. Additionally, 39% of world cuisine eaters are interested in products that are suitable for use with both meat and meat-free dishes [6].
Furthermore, Bang Curry believes that for consumers, the trend of ‘cooking from scratch’ fosters a sense of pride and discovery. However, the company reports that consumers looking for authentic curry meal kits are met with ready-made wet sauces and sauce kits that are processed with preservatives, lack authentic flavour, and have a high sugar and fat content. In addition, consumers are increasingly looking for products that adhere to sustainable manufacturing practices such as reduced plastic use, compostable materials, and recycled packaging [11]. Accordingly, Bang Curry aims to address this need within the curry category of world cuisine meal kits. The company seeks to bring delicious and authentic curries to home and professional kitchens with their innovative, easy-to-use curry range, offering consumers a healthier and more sustainable option to currently available products.

Each kit includes all the essential ingredients and instructions for cooking an authentic curry dish at home. The company has also created easy-to-follow video tutorials that make meal preparations fun and engaging.
Unlike traditional methods, the Bang Curry cooking process is simplified into three simple steps. First, the kit includes a sachet of a dried onion base that users can soak into a flavourful paste, eliminating the need for preparing and chopping ingredients. Next, Bang Curry provides a spice blend that can be mixed with water and added to dish for taste. Finally, customers can customise the recipe with their choice of ingredients which include vegetable and protein preferences. By giving home cooks the ability to make the dish their own, Bang Curry kits are intended to accommodate a variety of dietary needs. The company aims to emphasise inclusivity as their kits accommodate vegan, gluten-free and dairy-free dietary preferences.
The company states some recipes can be completed in just 10 minutes, providing a convenient option for homecooked meals. Bang Curry assures that all kits contain 100% natural dry ingredients that are free from artificial preservatives.
Importantly, Bang Curry claims that its products are healthier than other available world cuisine meal kits on the market and are low in sugar and fat. As a result, the company reports it is HFSS (high in fat, salt, and sugar) compliant, including an HFSS comparison table for its product range [12].
